I once saw a beautiful lithograph titled “You Are What You Eat.” It featured a boy eating the Bible. It was a simple play on words with a powerful message: What are you feeding yourself spiritually?
What ideas, opinions, actions, and influences were I allowing into my life that were bringing negativity, evil, and unhealthy habits? It would have been easy to blame my friends, society, politics, family, relationships, or my past. But there was one common denominator in every situation:
Me.
I was the one making choices — many of them unhealthy, unwise, or spiritually blind. I had been feeding myself the wrong ideas, the wrong influences, and the wrong paths because I trusted my own understanding more than God’s. And the saddest part? I rarely consulted Him. And when I did, I was too impatient to wait for His answer, so I took matters into my own hands.
This truth touched every area of my life — even my eating habits. I realized I had been a terrible driver of my own life.
Jesus, please take the wheel. Because if I ever had a license to run my life, it needed to be revoked.
Gracious Heavenly Father, I come before You broken, humbled, and fully aware that much of my pain has come from my own hands — through disobedience, arrogance, and self‑righteousness. I confess that I have failed to trust You in every area of my life. Today, I recognize that I am powerless without You.
My thoughts and my deeds have deceived me and weakened me, but Your grace and mercy are my strength. Lead me beside still waters. Fill my cup with Your Holy Spirit. Open my ears so I may hear You clearly as You guide my path. Shape my decisions. Fill me with courage. Remove every trace of fear, for there is no fear in faith.
I trust You completely. Help me recognize temptation the moment it appears. Show me the way of escape. Guard my mind from regret when You place me on a God‑appointed path. I choose obedience. I choose Your will. I choose surrender.
Remind me to give You praise and glory for every accomplishment and every victory. I ask all these things in Jesus’ name. Amen.
